KLEBERG COUNTY – A battle is brewing between Kleberg County leaders and a local uranium mining company that wants to expand to new areas. County officials claim the company still needs to clean up the older sites first.
The company mines uranium by pumping water into the ground, running it through uranium- filled rock, pumping it back to the surface, and finally extracting the uranium. The community out there is concerned about what’s left in the ground water after the company is done mining. Read more

(CDNX:PTU.V) is pleased to announce its agreement with UEM Inc. to form a joint venture in the ongoing exploration of UEM’s Hook Lake uranium project in the Athabasca Basin. HONG KONG: Australia’s PepinNini Minerals Ltd. has sealed a deal with China’s state-owned Sinosteel Corp to develop the Crocker Well and Mt. Victoria uranium deposits in South Australia, the company said on Wednesday.
Sinosteel will pay the Australian explorer A$28.5 million (US$22.1 million) for a 60 percent stake in the project, subject to approval from the governments of both countries. The two had signed a memorandum of understanding in September. Read more

CEDAR CITY – The semi trucks would roll by every 10 minutes, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, hauling coal on a Heritage Highway in southern Utah. That vision is a nightmare for many of the people living along the two-lane highway.
